How to find your friends at Rock am Ring

how to find your friends at Rock am Ring: buy the same camping ticket for everyone, learn a landmark near your tent before dark, and agree an infield meeting point and a regroup time. text rather than call, agree what everyone does if a storm stops the music, and carry one way of finding each other that needs no signal.

Rock am Ring is a three-day rock festival at the Nürburgring, the motor-racing circuit in Germany's Eifel hills. around 90,000 fans came to the sold-out 2026 edition, and the next one runs 4–6 June 2027, with campsites opening on Wednesday 2 June. by mid-September 2026, more than 60,000 tickets for 2027 had already sold, with blink-182, Die Toten Hosen and Bring Me The Horizon at the top of the bill. this guide covers why crews split up at the Ring, how to camp together, where to meet, what to do when the weather turns, how to get there and back as a group, and the tools that work with no signal.

Why is it easy to lose your friends at Rock am Ring?

it's easy to lose your friends at Rock am Ring because the festival is spread over a racetrack, its car parks and the hills around it, and most of your crew's day happens away from the stages. the festival ticket "only grants access to the infield (concert area)", and camping is sold separately as General, Green, Power, Racetrack, Car & Tent, Car / Caravan and Experience variants, each with its own rules and its own patch of ground. the camping page puts the Car / Caravan Power NORD area "about 5 km north of the festival area", while Racetrack Power Camping sits "just a few steps from the infield".

so a crew that bought tickets one by one can easily be split across the site before the first band plays: one friend in Green Camping with quiet hours from 1 am to 8 am, two in a camper 5 km away, the rest on a General campsite. add about 90,000 people, a five-day camping window from Wednesday to Monday, and long walks between the tents and the infield in the dark, and "see you at the tent" stops being a plan. our complete guide to finding friends at a festival has the general version; this page applies it to the Ring.

How do you camp together at Rock am Ring?

you camp together at Rock am Ring by buying the same camping ticket for everyone and arriving as a group, or by booking a reserved group pitch so arrival times don't matter. the camping areas open on Wednesday 2 June 2027 at 12:00, except Experience Camping, Racetrack Power Camping and Utopia Stage Camping, which open at 18:00, and they close on Monday 7 June at 12:00.

the Boxenplatz upgrade is the festival's own answer to keeping a group together. it's added to General Camping tickets and reserves a pitch at campsite A5a: 50 m² (10 × 5 m) for up to five people, or 100 m² (10 × 10 m) for up to ten. in the festival's words, "your reserved spot will be ready when you arrive – no matter when that is", and "the group does not need to arrive together". bigger crews can ask for neighbouring pitches, even after booking, though the festival only promises it "will do our best". each person still needs their own General Camping ticket.

if you camp in a car or camper, one rule matters more than the rest: on the Car / Caravan and Car & Tent areas, once a vehicle is parked it may not be moved during the festival, and re-entry isn't permitted. whoever drives decides where the crew sleeps for five days, so park together the first time.

Where should you meet at Rock am Ring?

the best Rock am Ring meeting point is a fixed, named spot on the festival map that isn't in front of the main stage, plus a second spot near your campsite for the end of the night. a good spot passes three tests:

    1. it doesn't move. a signposted structure, a named bar or a numbered campsite sign, never "by the merch stand" or "where we stood for the last band".
    2. it isn't in a crowd flow. the front of the main stage, the infield entrances and the paths back to the campsites fill up at exactly the moments you'll need to regroup.
    3. everyone can find it alone. if one person can't walk there from their tent at 2 am, pick something else.

then add a regroup time nobody needs a phone to remember, such as the top of every hour or the end of each headline set. open the site plan in the festival app before you arrive, mark both spots and screenshot the map so everyone has it offline.

watch out for the zones in front of the Utopia Stage. the camping page describes zones A and B at the Utopia Stage, with guaranteed entry for Utopia Stage Camping guests only if they reach the access point "at least 30 minutes before the start of the co-headliner", and no guarantee for anyone later. if half your crew is inside a front zone and half isn't, nobody can just walk over to the other half. agree a meeting point outside the zones before the headliner starts.

Can the Rock am Ring app find your friends?

the Rock am Ring app won't find your friends, as far as its download page says. as of November 2026, the page lists the full food and drinks offer, all opening hours and the festival shuttle times, plus "interactive features" it doesn't name, and it doesn't mention sharing your location with friends. the festival's info page also says show times are published in advance through its usual channels and in the app. that makes the app worth installing for the timetable and the shuttle, not as your crew plan.

your phone also does a lot of other jobs over five days in a field. the info page handles refunds of leftover cashless balances by email, so check before you travel how you'll pay on site. power is the other limit. the Power camping tickets give each pitch a connection of up to 1,000 watts, and the Utopia Stage Camping lounge lists phone charging, but on a General or Green campsite the battery you bring is the battery you have.

two habits help. text instead of calling, and put the time and place in every message ("01:40, at the meeting point, waiting 15 min"), so a message that arrives late still makes sense. and treat battery like money: one person carries a charged spare, and nobody burns their phone filming every song and then can't find the tent.

What should your crew do if a storm hits Rock am Ring?

if a storm hits Rock am Ring, follow the instructions from the stage and staff first, then go to the meeting point you agreed on day one, not to the stage you were heading for. the Eifel is cold and changeable in early June. on the first day of the 2026 festival, the forecast for the Nürburgring was about 11 °C at midday and no more than 16 °C all day, with a growing risk of thunderstorms, heavy rain, hail and storm-force gusts, while fans were already pulling their handcarts through the mud.

it has gone badly before. in 2016, when the festival was held at the Mendig airfield rather than the Nürburgring, the Red Cross counted 71 people injured by lightning on the Friday evening. on the Sunday, with another storm expected, the local authority withdrew permission to continue, loudspeakers told everyone to leave, and tens of thousands of people walked out through the mud at once.

that's the scenario a crew plan is for. agree a simple rule in advance: if the music stops for weather, everyone goes to the meeting point or straight to the tent, and nobody sets off for the car alone. put it in the group chat on day one, while everyone can still read it.

How do you get to and from Rock am Ring together?

you get to and from Rock am Ring together by travelling on the same shuttle or in the same car, and by agreeing one meeting point for the final departure. the travel page lists the options for 2027:

    • city shuttles: coaches run from several German cities straight to the festival and back, booked through the festival. arriving by train, you travel to Cologne or Koblenz and change to a city shuttle. the Koblenz shuttle leaves from Neversstraße 8, next to the bus station, and arrives at bus parking lot D10.
    • by air: the festival suggests flying into Frankfurt am Main (FRA) or Cologne/Bonn (CGN), then taking a city shuttle.
    • by car: a Weekend Parking Badge covers day parking from 12:00 to 5:00 the next morning, Friday to Sunday, and every car must leave the day lots overnight.
    • leaving: departure from the parking and camping areas must happen by Monday 7 June 2027 at 12:00.

on the festival grounds, the info page says a shuttle runs between the campgrounds and the festival area. for the Monday departure, agree the time the tent comes down, the spot where everyone waits with their bags, and who has the car keys. one more check before you book: Rock am Ring has a sister festival, Rock im Park, on the Zeppelinfeld in Nuremberg on the same weekend, so make sure every ticket in the crew says Nürburgring.

A Rock am Ring crew plan, from the campsite to the last set

this plan takes ten minutes to set up and covers the moments crews most often split up:

    1. before you go: buy the same camping ticket for everyone, or book a Boxenplatz. share phone numbers on paper and in the group chat, and note whose SIM works at home prices.
    2. on arrival: pitch together, then find the nearest numbered sign or fixed landmark to your tent and photograph it. agree the infield meeting point, the campsite meeting point and the regroup time.
    3. at each stage change: say out loud where you're going next. anyone who leaves the group names a return time.
    4. if the weather turns: follow staff instructions, then go to the meeting point or the tent. decide together from there.
    5. before the last set ends: agree who walks back to the campsite with whom. nobody walks back alone without telling the group.

Germany is in the EU, so EU visitors pay home prices for calls and data under the EU's roam like at home rules, which also cover Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Moldova and Ukraine. friends with a UK or US SIM should check with their provider first. for cold nights, rain and what to do when someone needs help rather than directions, see our festival safety guide.

What to do if you lose your friends at Rock am Ring

if you lose your friends at Rock am Ring, stop walking and follow the plan. searching at random across a racetrack and its campsites is how two people keep passing each other.

    1. text once, with the time and place. "22:15, lost you, going to the meeting point." then stop; repeat messages clog a busy network.
    2. go to the meeting point at the next regroup time and wait there.
    3. after the last set, go to the campsite meeting point you agreed, not straight into the tent rows in the dark.
    4. if your phone is lost, go to the meeting point anyway, then ask at an info point. after the festival, the info page lists fundsachen@adenau.de for missing valuables.
    5. if you're worried about someone's safety, find staff straight away. the festival's safety and support page says there will be an Awareness Team and Awareness Points again. in an emergency, call 112: it's the European emergency number, available everywhere in the EU, free of charge, from landlines and mobile phones.

campsite names, info points and services change from year to year, so check them in the current festival app when you arrive.

How do you find your friends at Rock am Ring without signal?

the tools that find your friends at Rock am Ring without signal are a plan, walkie-talkies and offline friend finders: small devices, one per person, that show where your friends are with no network at all. they solve different parts of the problem. competitor figures below come from each maker's own website, as of November 2026:

optionwhat you getneeds phone signal?how close it gets you
meeting point + regroup timea place and time everyone returns tonoto the spot, if everyone sticks to it
location sharing in an appa dot on a mapyesa smartphone is typically accurate to within a 4.9 m radius under open sky (US government figures), worse near buildings and trees

aura vibea light ring points the way and the display counts down the metres; up to 5 people; USB-C recharge; first batch ships early 2027nodown to 10 cm up close

walkie-talkies are the only voice option that works with no network; in Europe, buy licence-free PMR446 models. for every category in more depth, see our festival friend finder comparison. for another big European festival where much of the crowd camps, see how to find your friends at Tomorrowland.

    Where aura vibe fits, honestly

aura vibe is a crew-finder wearable from We are Aura s. r. o., an EU company based in Slovakia. the light ring points the way and the display counts down the metres, down to 10 cm at close range, so you go from "somewhere on the campsite" to standing at your friend's tent in the dark. it reaches up to 10 km in open terrain and up to 2.5 km in dense city blocks with no internet, works with zero phone signal and no roaming in every European country except Belarus and Russia, and every extra aura vibe in a crew extends everyone's range. it runs 24 hours per charge and recharges over USB-C in 2.5 hours, so a crew on a General campsite isn't counting AA batteries.

the limits, plainly: crews top out at 5 people, and everyone needs their own aura vibe. Totem Compass is on sale now and takes up to 8 friends, and Crowd Compass takes groups of any size and adds messaging. aura vibe's first batch ships early 2027. pre-orders are fully refundable until shipping, with a 14-day return window after delivery and a 2-year warranty. see how aura vibe works for the full spec.

    FAQ

not as far as the official download page says. as of November 2026, it lists the food and drinks on offer, opening hours and festival shuttle times, plus "interactive features" it doesn't name. it doesn't mention sharing your location with friends. use it for times and the shuttle, and agree a fixed meeting point so your crew doesn't depend on anyone's phone.

buy the same camping ticket for everyone, because each type sits in its own area. if you'd rather not race for space, the Boxenplatz upgrade reserves a pitch at campsite A5a for up to five or up to ten people, ready whenever you arrive, so the group doesn't need to travel together. you can ask for neighbouring pitches, but the festival only promises to do its best.

during the festival, ask at an info point on site. if you notice after the festival that something valuable is missing, the official info page says to email fundsachen@adenau.de, the lost property address it lists. write down what the item looks like, where you last had it and on which day, so the item can be matched quickly.

call 112. it's the European emergency number, free of charge from landlines and mobile phones everywhere in the EU, including Germany, and it reaches an ambulance, the fire brigade or the police. on site, the festival says there will be an Awareness Team and Awareness Points again, so the nearest member of staff is often the fastest help.
