What you’re looking at
this is a working aura vibe prototype, held in one hand. the dot-matrix display on the front shows the live distance to the person you’re looking for, updating as you move. no map, no blue dot, no waiting for a fix. you read a number and walk.
the clip is unedited on purpose. the electronics you see are done and tested; the final industrial design is still in the works, so the shell is a prototype, not the finished product.
nothing in this shot needs mobile signal or wifi. aura uses ultra-wideband radio directly between two devices, which is why it keeps working in the exact places your phone gives up: a packed festival field, a valley, a foreign country with no data.
Why this is hard for a phone
phone location sharing needs signal and gives you a dot on a map that is accurate to tens of metres, which is useless once you’re already close and surrounded by people. aura points down to about 10 cm, the difference between “somewhere over there” and “that person, right there”.
